Selling All For Location Independence

Updated: Jan 26, 2022

In Idyllwild, CA with Mayor Max the dog.

The wheels have been spinning as we were trying to figure out how we wanted to begin our journey. We leaned towards RVing, but shifted gears so to speak, and have decided on housesitting. Our kids and I love animals and decided it would be a great experience for our family's travel adventure.

What Is House/Petsitting?

Housesitting is where you travel nationally or internationally caring for people’s homes, pets, gardens, pools, etc. in exchange for accommodations. Generally speaking, there is no exchange of money, just the mutual benefit that is enjoyed by both parties. For us personally, this will be very cost-effective in our journey.

Selling Our Belongings

We have been really concentrating on selling most of our possessions. We cannot drag them on the road. I wrote a post called Facebook Marketplace Is Free. I explain how we are ridding our lives of all the stuff that.

About The Kids

So far it has been a whirlwind as we prepare our home for sale, and finish up the school year with Vallen our 5-year-old promoting from kindergarten, and Vincent our 13-year-old graduating from 8th grade.

Additionally, I have been selling off everything in our home that is not nailed down as we prepare to set out. I won’t lie, it is a little rough for Vallen. He doesn’t understand why we are selling everything. But reassuringly we tell him he has nothing to fear because he will be with his family who loves him and meeting lots of great animals, seeing wonderful places, and meeting great people.

That’s a Wrap

The preparation for becoming location independent is a big task, but so rewarding and thrilling. Even the kids are eager to get traveling and start homeschooling.

The coolest part about this journey is not necessarily knowing how it will end. We will see where the road takes us. We are starting our explorations in the United States. The goal is to eventually world travel once we are ready to move on to the next phase. Stay tuned!
